The 3rd Lake Party is coming!
September 6, 2025Our Council actively participated in the final conference of the European project JuniorXpress, which was held in a hybrid format at the ActionAid Youth Centre in Thessaloniki. The project, which has now come to an end, aimed to place children and young people at the heart of decision-making in their cities, promoting their meaningful participation in local policies.
More than 100 participants attended the event, either in person or online, including representatives of institutions, Civil Society Organisations, local government bodies, as well as young women and men from Youth Councils across the country.
The event opened with greetings delivered via video by Elena Rapti, Deputy Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, while in-person statements were made by Giannis Papageorgiou, Coordinator of the Prime Minister’s Office in Thessaloniki, Makis Chatzitheoklitos, Deputy Mayor for Social Policy, Solidarity and Welfare of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, and Theodoros Sidiropoulos, Deputy Mayor for Health, Welfare, Social Policy, Preschool Education and Youth of the Municipality of Ampelokipoi–Menemeni.
As part of the conference, the project results were presented along with recommendations on how cities can design policies that strengthen the voice of children and young people in decision-making processes. Our Council took part in the Policy Workshop, sharing its experience from the civic project implemented during the programme, as well as proposals for the more meaningful involvement of young people in shaping local strategies.
A particularly important moment was the discussion on the role of Municipal Youth Councils as living institutions of democracy, with our members sharing their own experiences and underlining the need to strengthen participatory processes.
Our presence at the conference once again highlighted that children and young people are not only the future, but also the present, with a decisive role in shaping the society in which we want to live.
