The Youth Loop Tour begins!
August 6, 2025Our Council carried out its second knowledge-transfer visit within the framework of the European programme Cities4Her, this time through a two-day mission to the remote border island of Agios Efstratios, with the aim of transferring good practices and experiences related to the integration of a gender perspective in local governance.
Cities4Her aims to empower young people’s participation in shaping gender equality policies, with a strong focus on the local level. The visit to Agios Efstratios followed a series of consultations that had already taken place with representatives of local authorities in more than 90 Municipalities and 13 Regions.
During the mission, we had the opportunity:
• to become familiar with the particular characteristics and needs of a small, island-based and historically resilient Municipality,
• to engage in dialogue with representatives of local government and exchange experiences on equality policies,
• to take part in workshops and experiential activities focusing on the creation of inclusive local policies,
• to gain first-hand insight into how the island’s younger generation perceives and shapes the future of its community.
The visit to Agios Efstratios highlighted the importance of engaging with local communities that, despite the challenges of isolation and geographical remoteness, place gender equality at the centre of public dialogue.
Warm thanks to the Municipality of Agios Efstratios for the hospitality, cooperation and openness to dialogue with the younger generation.
This experience further strengthened the voice of young people and reinforced their role as meaningful interlocutors on issues of equality and democracy in every corner of the country.
Cities4Her is implemented by the consortium of partners: Hellenic Agency for Local Development and Local Government (EETAA) / Project Coordinator, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) / Department of Communication and Media Studies, ActionAid Hellas, Municipality of Thermi, Municipality of Larissa, Municipality of Pangaio and Municipality of Kavala.
