October 5, 2025The European Erasmus+ programme “Manga United” was successfully completed, implemented by the Youth Council of the Municipality of Thermi, Aristotle College and the German school Marienschule Offenbach.
The programme aimed to bring young people from Greece and Germany closer through their shared love for the Japanese art of manga, while also strengthening environmental awareness, creativity and intercultural understanding.
The final event took place on Friday, 3 October, at the Municipal Theatre of Thermi, where the programme results, the students’ works and the experiences gained through the collaboration were presented. The event was moderated by Chrysi Klimatsouda, Head of the Directorate of Education, Youth, Lifelong Learning and Employment, and Stavros Papagiannis, Secretary of the Youth Council of the Municipality of Thermi.
The “Manga United” programme was a valuable learning and cooperation experience, offering young people the opportunity to discover new cultures, express themselves through art and exchange ideas on issues related to the environment and society.
As part of the programme, on Saturday, 4 October, a manga portrait drawing workshop was held by internationally acclaimed mangaka Christina Plaka, with the participation of students and young people from the Municipality of Thermi. Participants had the opportunity to learn manga techniques and secrets and create their own works.
On the same day, the German delegation visited the exhibition “The Invisible Role of Women Through Time” at the Cultural Foundation of the National Bank of Greece (Villa Kapantzi), gaining deeper insight into the history and culture of the Municipality of Thermi.
The students’ manga exhibition will be hosted at the Municipal Library of Thermi until 10 October, inviting the public to experience the works and creativity of the young artists up close.
The Youth Council of the Municipality of Thermi warmly thanks all participants, educators and programme partners for their excellent cooperation and contribution to the success of “Manga United”.
